Laboratory and Basic Sciences

The UVRI-IAVI HIV Vaccine Program Laboratory and Basic Sciences Services is composed of two sections i.e. the safety and the immunology sections. The laboratory is accredited in Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GLCP) standards, ISBN 1-904610-00-5 by Qualogy Ltd. It was among the first laboratories in the world to receive this type of accreditation in 2005 and has maintained it since through annual accreditation audits.
 The mandate of the services is to:

1. Conduct tests that measure the safety and immunogenicity of HIV vaccines in clinical trials.
2. Conduct research to support the prevention of HIV/AIDS and related diseases.
3. Collaborate with other research groups in studies aimed and preventing HIV/AIDS and related disease.
